Admiralty Upgrades

From "Admiralty House Park Draft Management Plan: Public Consultation"

Go to the project

Stronger emphasis in removing evasive species in dense woodland areas. Planting of microforests has been well received but could be hampered by other invasives (rats, chickens and cats). Chicken roost in the dense foliage of invasive plants as well.

Chickens and cats now moving into adjacent neighborhoods and becoming nuisance. Problem exasperated by a few who visit the park specifically to feed cats and chickens.

Addition of shower/rinsing facilities at the bathrooms similar to Clearwater and Horseshoe. Either at new proposed bathrooms or next to the beach.

Many tourists and locals utilize the park and often leave covered in salt and sand with tourists bringing this on the bus as well.

Outdoor showers can have pumps on timers to limit over-use/abuse/exploitation. Also shut down during winter period.

Enforcement of no vehicles at beach area. Dangerous with young children everywhere and bikes often speeding up and down the main access road to the beach.

Limited and scheduled times when gates can be opened for drop-off during holiday periods/weekends. Again, must come with enforcement. After a while people will adjust to the times. Risk having car/bike locked in overnight or towed.

More and/or better placement of trash receptacles.

Stronger police presence during holiday periods to prevent anti-social behavior.

Better landscaping of grass area at the beach area with some sort of shaded space. Cement slab with anti-vandal picnic benches.

Better lighting at the beach. ZERO lights currently make it difficult to clean after dark contributing to littering.

Stronger emphasis on developing the ballroom space to an event function area. Much better location than what is being proposed at Southlands Park. The space now is completely under utilized and one of the best views of the island (Dockyard to Ferry Reach). If the development is underfunded/poorly executed the space will continue to be under used and valued. Reach out to event planners and catering companies to assist with design and functionality. Such as dedicated service entrance, parking and prep spaces. Ability to erect tents that can utilize the view with dedicated tie downs anchors. Appropriate electrical hookups for large events....etc etc.

Can Age Concern share this space to maximize revenue generation? Do they need the top floor with the best views?

Any feasibility to dock larger boats to drop off at the current dock space for large events. Safety of public swimmers take precedent. Application for 1 day permits to dock? This removes public option from creating a danger to swimmers. Most boats anchor off and swim in currently.

I agree with most of your comments. The Cat feeders do NO harm at all. Those cats have been there for many years. The Cats actually help with the rats which are a bigger problem for us that live across the street. The Age Concern space is not that big to enable sharing. And we do not need large events over there. We have enough noise issues all summer long from the beach area especially over CupMatch holiday when music starts vibrating windows on Thursday and is not turned down until the Sunday.

@Erica Rance Mill Understand your points re big events and the noise these days as nothing can be done within reasonable noise levels sadly, and not against anyone having fun but has to be done considerately.

This is a fantastic idea to renovate this area and use it as another recreational choice . So far all the comments are spot on. It needs to be maintained once done and the rules and regulations need to be enforced at all times.
