I look forward to all of the proponents posting their incomes publicly. Because this is nobody’s business other than the employers.

    @Patrick Caton I can indeed see both sides, but I lean towards the historic inequity that is observed in salaries. To continue the status quo only serves to reinforce those inequities. This will not bode well for Bermuda in the longterm, as a whole. And, in my opinion salaries are the business of the employer AND the employee. Can’t have one without the other. Unless we want to travel back in time 100+ years where employees didn’t really matter?

    There are definite pros and cons to this policy, but the amount of times where you can see that race/favoritism plays a huge part in wages/raises/etc. is very disturbing. Surely we can come to a middle ground where it's better than now, but still protects privacy. Maybe, especially when replacing a permit holder, the wages have to be approved by Immigration or something to make sure that the same job is paid fairly to the Bermudian replacement.

      It is interesting to read about retaining the status quo while it is apparent there are certain inequities present in Bermuda. Remaining stagnant in any aspect of community only serves to reinforce the gap between the haves and the have nots. History shows this won’t bode well for either party. The use of the word entitlement is very relevant in this conversation. Hopefully the legislation will help to level a playing field which is definitely sloped. I implore the Government to follow best practices and to attain, implement, and use the data so that in benefits ALL of Bermuda. Employees and employers together. Ensuring all requirements, categorizations, and certifications are considered in the legislation.
