From "Suggestions to stimulate economic recovery for Bermudians once Shelter in Place ends"

Go to the project

Good day,

I have a suggestion regarding schools.

Being that schools may not re-open as expected and the Children have missed many days.

I would like to suggest that maybe the children stay in the same year until after Christmas break. To allow them to get adjusted back to some order.

Than in the New Year transfer them into the next year especially the Primary years.

This will allow the children to feel comfortable before moving on to the next level and missing the teacher from the previous years.

Sincerely,

Toni Tucker

I think children should go back to school. However keeping them in the same year until next year. To help with confidence. The youger years primary and middle school. I believe it would be a lot to move into the next year as so much unexpected has happen Some children may not be ready
It will be difficult to send parents back to work without first opening the schools. However, before opening school we have to look carefully at the physical environments in schools. Most school buildings are old and we know how easily mold can grow in Bermuda's buildings that are closed up and not used. Please ensure that all buildings are thoroughougly disinfected before putting our children back into them. Has the disinfecting of schools begun? On another note. Some parents are still nervous about sending their children back to school when they deem it may be too early. Will that be considered and will parents have the option of keeping their children home longer with eg someone with a small group or a grandparent? When it comes to the curriculum, I do not think we need worry about whether the entire curriculum has been completed for the year. I do not think that we need to hold school over the summer in order to catch up. Children have years in school to catch up and every classroom and subject teacher can adjust as necessary in September. On the academic note, we need only focus on the needs of our graduating students and those in S3 of high school. Academically they are the only ones that this crisis could negatively.
