Immigration

From "Suggestions to stimulate economic recovery for Bermudians once Shelter in Place ends"

Go to the project

Please consider that as proven by this current pandemic, we cannot rely on tourism. I hope you will look to opening up immigration to bring in more business and more people to boost our economy. Economy was flagging anyway prior to this. One of the reasons for this was our immigration policy that dissuades non Bermudians from coming to our shores.

I have to commend this government for how they’ve handled everything during this pandemic and want you to know that you have probably swayed my vote, but only if you continue to do the right thing for ALL of the people at Bermuda, not just the current PLP voters.

This is a new opportunity to build a fairer and more equal society. At the same time I agree that we must open up immigration to bring in more International Business. We must however find that line where we can do it in a way that does not deny our children's future security as educated and enterprising Bermudians . Desperation cannot cause us to give the island away to the highest bidder and as happening in The Cayman, have foreigners outstripping the locals in population and in assets. The advantages that foreign businesses reap from our shores must not outstrip the advantages that Bermudians are given to build local thriving businesses of their own...and Black Bermudians in particular, who have never been given fair and equal opportunities. This is also a prime opportunity for established companies in Bermuda to open up the ownership to all Bermudians. Most Bermudians are unaware or have been denied the opportunity to buy shares in established Bermuda Companies and thus become a 'part owner'. Those larger companies that are falling on hard times should consider opening up to share ownership. This would also bolster the potential to 'Buy Bermuda'. We need more education on investing in our own country.
