In relation to expats on jury - and age boundaries
From "Jury Reform Public Consultation"

- Expats - whilst having expats on a jury sounds like a great idea from the point of view of not being biased by family connections etc - expecting expats to hold a position of such gravitas within a country that they have no security in, is not viable. They are always concerned about the effect of actions on their work permit - and there are not many "degrees of separation" between anyone on island, and aggrieving someone's boss by convicting their cousin could literally mean the end of your family life on island. It would also be quite scary, since expats are not the most loved individuals on the island in the first place, so expecting them to put themselves in potentially harm's way is not fair to them when they have no rights on the island. Also - their employer has paid for a work permit - so to have to forgo their position for as long as it takes is disingenuous for the employer.
- It would be better if we could have some sort of reciprocal arrangement with for example Caymans who will have similar issues as us in relation to jury service, whereby Bermudians can juror in Cayman (zoom?) and Caymanians juror in Bermuda.
- Raising the age limit is not a good idea since older people already are much more likely to be anxious and infirm, and it will result in many more people needing to be signed off jury duty.
