Long-term tourist visas

“Working from home” has now been tested and proven largely successful on a global scale. Why not exploit this development, Bermuda, by offering long-term “tourist visas”? These would be available not only to non-Bermudian retirees who would like to spend, say, 6 months holidaying in Bermuda but crucially to non-Bermudian employed persons who wish to work-from-home in Bermuda. The latter would be conditional upon their business being based outside Bermuda and not a competitor of any Bermuda-based business. Issuance of such long-term “tourist visas” would not require a controversial change in Immigration Law and could presumably be implemented rapidly and could be readily adjustable/reversible. The presence of these temporary residents in Bermuda would contribute significantly to our economy. No need for reams of red tape or extortionate Government fees. They should be welcomed with open arms.
