No to LNG
From "The National Electricity Sector Policy"

Dear Minister,
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the NESP 2026 consultation. I am a concerned Bermudian, worried about how this policy will shape energy costs and energy independence on this island for a generation, and I believe it deserves to be tested against the evidence.
Putting Bermuda in a position to continue to be reliant on fossil fuels is environmentally, financially, ethically and morally irresponsible. Why are we not moving to harnessing and storing renewable energy resources like solar and/or wind, which, with the proper infrastructure, would ultimately serve us better and move Bermuda to a sustainable future?
Methane is already responsible for around one-third of the planet’s warming and has more than 80 times the warming potential of carbon dioxide in the short term (https://www.oxfamamerica.org/). Investing in methane gas locks us into a fossil-fuel future that can make our climate crisis worse, which is ironic considering Bermuda is at the mercy of increasing hurricanes as a result.
Let us learn from both past and present conflict and warfare to see what dependence on fossil fuels can do not only to market prices but to human lives.
I urge the Ministry to reconsider moving towards LNG and instead focus towards a sustainable future of renewable energy.
See attached letter.
Kindest regards,
