I notice that there has been no mention of pets in the new draft legislation. There needs to be some fair regulations covering pets as many tenants do have pets and would like to be able to rent and keep them. Look at the legislation that is now in place in the UK and I believe in parts of Canada. At the moment so many tenants are being denied accommodation because they have a pet which is discrimination and unfair.

1..While the Minister can select a Chair and Deputy Chair, he should not be able to appoint a person to the Tribunal anyone who has contravened any provision of the proposed legislation.
2 . As to tenants wanting to keep pets, there are clearly properties unsuited to keeping certain types because of the location and facilities available to pets for health , hygiene, impact on neighbours etc. and landlords must retain the choice
3. The use of the word "lease" is common in the community and often is understood to be different from the term "rent" or "let". In the list of definitions at the commencement of the Act "lease" appears to mean the the same thing as "let" . It would be helpful to be more specific as to the interpretation of the word "lease" for the purposes of a "rental" or "letting" agreement.

Legally, discrimination is the unjustified and unequal treatment of similarly situated individuals based on their membership in a protected class—such as race, gender, age, religion, disability, or sexual orientation—without a legitimate justification. I don't believe that 'Pet Owners' can be called a protected class.
