Pivot to renewable energy

From "The National Electricity Sector Policy"

Go to the project

I would like to respond to the recent policy paper put out by the Dept of Energy. I am asking the govt. to pivot more towards renewable energy and away from LNG.

I just moved to the Island a year and a half ago and was shocked when I opened my first Belco bill. I knew electricity was going to be expensive, but this is easily 3 times what I was paying in the States. I am now in the process of installing solar panels...lots and lots of solar panels. I hope to be 100% Belco-free and anticipate breaking even within 3-5 years.

It is extremely disappointing to learn that if I wanted to sell my power back to Belco, the rate they give is not worth it. I guess that’s what happens when they really don’t have any other competition and the government isn’t promoting any other options, tax breaks or incentives. Instead they are purposely throwing up obstacles to make solar and renewable energy options more difficult, resulting in the money being solely funneled to Belco and fossil fuels. A short sighted solution that will cost more in the long run.

Alternative energy would create jobs, enabling young people the ability to afford to live and thrive here.

Lead by example. Now is the time. Look forward, not backward.
