Potential jurors presently eliminated by judges, lawyers, and charged person reexamined
From "Jury Reform Public Consultation"
Go to the project
Potential jury selection seems flawed. Persons called to jury duty appear to be eliminated based on assumptions about superficial appearance, ie, race, gender, age, or presumed socioeconomic status. Judges, lawyers, and the person charged can eliminate persons who may actually be an objective and thoughtful jurors. Rather than relegate that eliminated person to the next time their name shows up in the alphabet years away, they could be used in the next trial on the list. I am left feeling that local jurors are underutilized. PRCs should also be used to increase the numbers available.
