Reduce size of Government

From "Suggestions to stimulate economic recovery for Bermudians once Shelter in Place ends"

Go to the project

Over the past few years, government has increased taxes across the board to a point no longer sustainable. Additionally over the past few years, government has reduced spending to a point that is no longer sustainable.

It is absolutely clear that government should get out of any business it should not be in. Some examples have been widely identified such as privatizing or outsourcing; education, transportation, post offices, prisons, Tynes Bay, Water Section, waste management, highways and road works, public housing and disposing of derelict government buildings.

By moving in this direction, government revenue is increased in terms of leases, permits and land tax and similarly the civil service is equally reduced as civil servants working within these areas would continue to work within these areas via the private sector. This is a win-win for both government and the private sector because you are reducing government while at the same time maintaining revenue and stimulating the private sector .

Government should focus on industry regulation, not running businesses.
