Bermuda is only so big with only so much land space designated as residential. Visitors come and go and as such, there should be a mandated priority of housing available to residents and yes, further, also to non work permit holders. As a country, "we" shall not be so greedy that the size of international business or our tourism market and our global rankings in these industries supersede that of service to the well-being of our local infrastructure of which housing should be a more pronounced basic HUMAN RIGHT. To a suitable extent, whatever thought process led to the institution of one car per registered household, this similar consideration needs to be given to the amount of Airbnb units that one registered property is permitted to have. One unit, whatever size that may be, would be a fair institution. The homeowner will get their opportunity at rental income and rental units to available to residents will significantly increase. This mandate shall apply to ALL, no exemption to ie sitting Government Minister. Anyone desiring to demand reasonable cause for which they need to have more than one unit assigned as Airbnb, shall also then have to apply to the Registrar of Companies, etc. in order to establish their properties as a legal enterprise and shall then also have to pay all necessary fees that would be governed by all applicable laws to operate as a business. This practice not only shows that we have a Government who is committed to resolving this housing crisis, but it will inevitably also add to the inventory of available units for rent to residents.
