Restaurants
From "Suggestions to stimulate economic recovery for Bermudians once Shelter in Place ends"
Go to the project
Good day,
I am a Bermudian, who has worked in the restaurant industry for over 25 years. We really need to get the restaurants open again. I can probably see us going back to the takeout only situation next week. Okay, that's a start, but, people like me, "front of the house," also waitstaff and bartenders, who a good percentage are local, need to start making money again. I realise bars may not get back yet, but we will still need bartenders to make drinks for diners. If the kitchen is already making food for takeout, we just need the restaurant itself back. Government could implement new rules and regulations, where tables would have to be 6 feet apart, staff would have to wear face masks and constantly wash hands. Cleaning of menus, tables and chairs after each use also. There could be spot checks on restaurants by government officials. (Personally, I feel Bermudian's will complain if rules are not being adhered to anyway). Sure, on a busy night, we will be making half the money we used to make, but it's a start and a step towards getting back to normal. It also seems as though, "busy" won't be happening anytime soon, so it should be no problem for restaurants to adhere to the new rules.
I think Bermuda will support the local economy, after all, nobody is probably gonna travel this summer. Hopefully many locals will have staycations and support the hotels and restaurants of Bda.
Never said this in my lifetime, I look forward to getting back to work! Good luck and good health to all, thanks for your time.
