It is unnecessary for drivers under the age of 65 to be required to have a medical every time they renew their licenses; that is every 10 years. There is nothing similar in any developed country. The cost of this superficial medical exam is anywhere from $90-$200 depending on the doctor.
The health department provides this service for $30, but appointments must be booked months in advance and if you forget to do this you will be forced to pay for a private doctor.
What is the purpose of this examination? Doctors are already required to report any condition that might impede driving ability. It is a waste of time and a quick buck for doctors but may make criminals of those who don't bother to get the certificate, but still drive.
