Website Services - Bermuda College and Local Business Partnerships

From "Suggestions to stimulate economic recovery for Bermudians once Shelter in Place ends"

Go to the project

A common complaint has been about the lack of websites showcasing the local businesses' inventory or for not being user friendly to navigate. Consumers want to shop locally but when you don't know what is in stock, how much it costs and then have to call the store, wait on the phone to confirm the item, then pay, then arrange curbside pickup and etc. it can be more of an annoyance and not worth the energy.

As Bermuda continues to think of ways to stimulate the economy, could the Corporation of Hamilton, Bermuda Business Development Authority and the Bermuda College partner together to provide the following:

  • Have students studying Computer Information Systems teach basic website design or SQUARE SPACE 101 on how to set up a basic website for business owners (how to set up a website, how to post their inventory, how to setup/accept secure payments with credit/debit cards)

  • Business owners could take advantage of bringing their business into the digital world and students could be paid for their services and gain career experience

There are some successful entrepreneurs who have been using Instagram, Facebook and other social media platforms to reach consumers - even a speaking series on what they use for their websites could help those less technologically inclined.
