The Ministry of Public Works and Environment is inviting public feedback on proposed improvements to the boat ramp at ‘Stonecrusher Corner’ on Kindley Field Road in St. George’s.

The proposed upgrades include restoring the launch surface and installing a section of concrete designed to allow vehicle access while helping to reduce surface water runoff onto Kindley Field Road. Landscaping improvements will be included to improve the area's overall look and feel and better integrate the site with its natural surroundings.

The Ministry of Public Works and Environment is inviting public feedback on proposed improvements to the boat ramp at ‘Stonecrusher Corner’ on Kindley Field Road in St. George’s.

The Ministry intends to proceed with the construction phase of this project, which involves rehabilitating the existing concrete ramp to enhance safety and usability for boaters and recreational users.

The proposed upgrades include restoring the launch surface and installing a section of concrete designed to allow vehicle access while helping to reduce surface water runoff onto Kindley Field Road. Landscaping improvements will be included to improve the area's overall look and feel and better integrate the site with its natural surroundings.

This project supports the site's ongoing use for boating activities and community events while maintaining a focus on durability, environmental responsibility, and public access.

As part of the planning process, the Ministry is seeking input from residents on the proposed designs and any additional considerations they feel should be taken into account before construction begins.

The consultation period will run from Thursday, 24 July to Friday, 8 August 2025.

Residents are encouraged to visit Forum.gov.bm to view the design drawings and submit their feedback online.

For those who prefer to share their input in person, a public access station has been set up at the Department of Parks, located on the ground floor of Global House, 43 Church Street, Hamilton.

Members of the public may visit the office between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to review the plans and complete a feedback form.

Public input will help guide the final design decisions and ensure the project reflects the needs and expectations of the community.

Doug Shirley8 months ago As a longtime boater and owner of one of the larger boats that have been moved back and forth by commercial trailer operators a properly functioning boat ramp is important.Properly functioning means that first of all the commercial trailer people need to be consulted to see what is needed, not just some non boat owning engineer.The ramp needs to go far enough into the water to handle the deepest draft vessels that the commercial trailer people handle at low tide, without wheels going off of the end. The surface will need to have a corrugated finish, preferably in a "V" for drainage and traction. There is also the angle into the water. There is a fine line between too steep and too shallow an angle. The commercial people know what is best, not some guy with a jetski.As already pointed out the commercial people don't need parking, they are in and gone, but they do need room to operate above the ramp therefore parking for individuals with jetskis and any other small vessels needs to be provided away from the ramp area east of the ramp.As an RVer for the past 18 years I have been in many state and county parks across the US and have observed the layouts of many boatramps. A good one is not hard to design. There is plenty space at Stonecrusher to do so.The biggest challenge will be abuse of the ramp, specifically the day use parking. Bermudians think that they can park wherever they please and have no idea of boat ramp ettiquete. Proper signage, and ENFORCEMENT, will need to happen to stop the entitled abusers.A typical boatramp used by dayboaters will have a pre launch area where you load all of your stuff into the boat and give it a quick start, should do that at home, Proceed to launch ramp when ready to launch, not before. Launch and move vessel away from ramp to a boarding float while trailer is parked. Y'all have thought about that boarding float havn't you. Where are all of those left over AC35 floats? That float is only be used for active loading or unloading. No vessels without an operator at anytime.Then there are the fees for use. I hope the public does not think that the use of this ramp is free. I have not seen a free ramp, other than a kayak launch, anywhere. State park boat ramp fees are not hard to find online. Rule of thumb for Bermuda is double up. I can hear the whining now but no cash, no splash. No permit displayed on tow vehicle in parking area, big fine.

George Tucker8 months ago Firstly, thank you for offering a portal for the community to provide feedback. I have reached out to multiple persons in w&e along with the minister however they simply just do not respond to emails. Hopefully they review these portal ideas. My concern is with regards to the floating dock around the corner at the airport. This was constucted around the America's Cup time and provides a fantastic way for both visitors and locals to get to and from the airport by boat. It is my understanding that it was damaged during a hurricane. The pylons for the dock from my view seem perfectly fine, there is just the need for a floating dock. It does not need to be fancy and does not need to fit massive yachts, just a simple floating dock. As this is under the remit of w & e perhaps both works can be combined together.

Brian Hollis8 months ago Most definitely a proper boat ramp should be constructed at this location, as has always been used as launch area for a variety of boats.Only issue is, who is the ramp going to benefit the most? As it is drawn now, it would mostly only benefit commercial trailering companies who would use it to launch & retrieve boats. I say this, as there is no area in the drawings for boaters using jet skis or smaller day craft to launch and then park their vehicle and trailer in a designated area off to the side. The commercial companies, launch and leave with the trailer. They do not need to park for any length of time in the ramp area.So I think it is important to provide a designated area for day boaters' trailers and cars to park once they have launched their jet ski, or small craft. Without this, the whole grass area surrounding the ramp will be abused and eroded by random parking of trailers and cars for the day.Most all boat ramps have a designated area, with strict controls to park your vehicle and trailer for the day. Consideration also needs to be given to lighting of the ramp area unless it is going to be locked off at sunset until sunrise ( which I cannot see happening). The ramp could also be used 24 hrs. by the Bda Coast Guard so lighting should be in place. This too is important from a Safety aspect.Many ThanksBrian Hollis
