National Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Stakeholder Consultation
Across the globe, many countries, states, and islands, including Bermuda, are advancing policies to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) and their supporting infrastructure. This global shift is well underway: in 2023, over 2.75 million publicly accessible EV chargers were installed in China and Europe alone (IEA). Bermuda, with its low vehicle mileage requirements and increasing renewable energy generation, is uniquely positioned to benefit from this transition. Developing policies and strategies to ensure the strategic and efficient rollout of EV charging infrastructure will be a key step to advancing Bermuda’s ZEV market.
To support an effective, sustainable, and reliable ZEV transition, Bermuda must develop a robust and accessible charging infrastructure network to support the widespread adoption of ZEVs. A network of strategically placed charging stations is essential to ensure that ZEV drivers can charge their vehicles conveniently, addressing potential barriers to adoption such as range anxiety. Establishing this infrastructure now will future-proof Bermuda’s transportation sector, ensuring that it remains competitive and aligned with global advancements in clean energy and mobility technologies.
The Ministry of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport is seeking feedback on the proposed draft National Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Policy Goals and Objectives. Specific feedback on individual policy goals and objectives as well as broad feedback on island charging initiatives is welcomed.
